Bulls Senior 2nd’s

Bulls healthy bastard senior Bs played against Kia Toa this afternoon on their club day. Kia Toa started strong with powerful carries up the middle and spreading the ball wide finding space. Bulls got down in the right areas of the field and started building points. A tough battle in the first half.

HT Bulls 15-14 Kia Toa

Kia Toa continued to put pressure on Bulls through their backs making breaks out wide. Bulls had moments of good rugby when they stuck to their structure but the game went the way of the home team Kia’s who dominated the half running away with the game.

Bulls Wahine

It was a battle of Bulls and Bees on Saturday when the Bulls Wāhine played the Marton Queenbeez on the road. Bulls came out firing right from the get go, in search of a first ever win on the scoreboard. The forwards were all set with their pods right from the start and it’s fair to say they let lose and ran a muck all game. The forwards set a great platform for the backs to show off a bit of razzle dazzle - and that they did, with some silky tries. However, not to be outdone by the backs, the forwards showed us that they too can score some long range tries. The Beez never stopped swarming all day on attack and the Bulls Wāhine made sure that they were prepared, calm and on the look out for the Queenbee (ball carrier) to contain the swarm. This worked out most of the time with few stings occurring. It was a great day of women’s footy with everyone out their doing it. The Bulls Wāhine had 9 players on the scorecard with Aaone picking up a hat trick and Birdy with 25 points (3 tries, 8 conversions). Final score 81-5, a special day for the team coming home with their first ever win.

Getting the 3, 2, 1 points in the game were:

3 – Aaone Sio, ran like a hot knife through butter into the Queenbeez backline defence and never looked like slowing down all game. She was stepping and swerving around players like no one business, then on defence you had to do a double take, it is a brick wall or is it Aaone?!? To top off a great performance, Aaone collected 3 meat pies. We’re not sure what flavour but we know they were pipping hot and of gourmet range.

2 – Eleanor (Missy) Butcher, must have been up on Friday night watching Aaron Smith highlights for inspiration cause wow wee, those passes at halfback were right on target all day. As per normal Missy, our fierce leader, continued to make sure everyone was headed in the right direction all game. She must have 20/20 vision and a gps in her pocket on game days to manage that. Missy popped up over the park ready to get the ball out of the ruck like ya cheap mate when you say it’s your shout at the Rathole on a Thursday night.

1 – Steph Cording, obviously woke up on Saturday morning and decided that she was going to run it straight all day long. She never shied away from running head on into the swarm on attack and made some gain line metres. You can bet that when her teammates opted to run into the swarm, she was right there in support ready to secure the ball in the ruck. On defence Steph was a like a bouncer at a club, she was too solid and strong no one was getting past her without a serious ID check.

Marton’s POD for Bulls Wāhine was:

Spags - Spagggy, player of the day yet again. Running off the back fence hard and fast into the other team breaking the line and all over the park, making try saving tackles, stepping like Israel Dagg scoring tries and getting more points with the boot. Spaggy is really our Raygun she has some true moves not just in the changing room but all over the field. Never fails to disappoint, always has everyone’s back and always seem to push on no matter what.
