Bulls Senior 2nd’s

Bulls healthy bastard senior Bs squared off against our neighbours Te Kawau Bs today in a round 4 hit out. Bulls were strong in their game plan and heads up play leading to early try’s. Te Kawau were strong in their forwards at set piece with solid mauls and up front work to hit back. Te Kawau found space down the short side to grab extra metres and got them in good on field positions to plan their attack. The Bulls boys defence held strong and they dominated the half which earnt them a good lead.

HT Bulls 33-12 Te Kawau

In the second half Te Kawau played some good rugby early on in the half which forced the Bulls boys to reset. Bulls resisted the surge and sent the ball wide to find space a stretch the Te Kawau defence across the paddock to score more points. Te Kawau scored a try late in the second half after applying constant pressure but Bulls finished the game off scoring with 1 minute to go.

Bulls Wahine

The Bulls Wāhine headed north to play Taihape on Friday night in what was a change of conditions from the last two matches - the sun had gone into hibernation at Memorial Park. It would have been understandable if the players opted to bring their gummies instead of rugby boots to the Gumboot capital of NZ.

Whilst the team was met with some rain and cold weather, they were aware of the challenge ahead playing off against last years champs. But, in true Bulls Wāhine fashion they pusssshed on. The Taihape forward pack only had one sense of direction all day and that was to run it straight. The Bulls Wāhine did their best to match, through some hard running Melina Tofa crashed the ball over in the first half for a try. The backs were fortunate to have some clean ball come their way throughout the game to show off their best bits of razzle dazzle. The razzle dazzle didn’t quite result in a try but that’s when the pods came into play. The forwards were charging and Kat Penny-Baker found her way over the white line. As they say it’s a game of two halves with the Bulls Wāhine reminding all the brave spectators in attendance that it’s a full 80-minute tussle, only conceding two tries in the second half. It might have been NRL’s magic round this week but there was also a bit of magic on display at Memorial Park. Final score 10 – 50.

Getting the 3, 2, 1 points in the game were:

3 – Spaggyy, she loves to play a bit of slip and slide but is always keen to take down the player that breaks the line down with massive try saving tackles, running hard with ball in hand, also breaking the line to get some good go forward ball. She always seems to be all over the park whether it’s running or yelling but just a great around player who always loves puts her body on the line for the team. She is free to give out some ice-skating tips so just hit her up, we might be able to catch another look of these ice skating tips in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

2 – Melina Tofa, if there’s two options on game day #1 run it straight at Lina or option #2 find somewhere else to run, be warned it’s in your best interest to pick option #2. Melina was ready for anything all game (IYKYK). With some big hits and strong running, it was hard for the Taihape players to rein in. It has been said that in the pre game warm up Melina had been eyeing up the white line and she made sure to find it in the first half.

1 – Qiqi Frost, in a new position at number 8, you would have been wrong to think that a change of jersey and player number would change the way she played. Leading from the front Qiqi never stopped chucking her hand up to run it straight time and time again. Battered and bruised Qiqi pusssshed on all game.

Taihape’s POD for Bulls Wāhine was:

Spags - Indisputably, Spag received Taihape’s POD for her dominating performance. When she wasn’t playing around in the mud or having a coughing fit, she was there as our last line of defence making try saving tackles. On attack she was there to gain metres with her DC boot and with ball in hand she wasn’t afraid to run it straight and break tackles! Unfailing and always reliable - Spaggy, this was well deserved!
